A trained architect, Colin Keegan left England in 1990 to live in the British West Indies. He met his wife there. Then they moved with their daughter to Sante Fe New Mexico, eventually finding their way into a farming community among ancient apple orchards. It was pressing and fermenting cider on his farm that got the family into the Spirits business. And when the economy struggled in 2009, he took it on full time, founding Santa Fe Spirits in 2010. The continue to live on their farm and distill a wide range of Spirits from Gin and Brandies to Whiskies and Liqueurs.

Santa Fe Spirits produces a Western style Single Malt. And that means the malt has been smoked with native mesquite wood — a genus of shrub-like trees native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is also a much sought-after flavoring wood for smoking meats. But where Scottish peat delivers oily and briny notes, mesquite brings lively drying warmth. Colkegan Cask Strength Single Malt Whiskey is that same, award-winning dram delivered at 59% ABV.
