This story of El Espolon begins right where it should — with a passionate Tequila enjoyer. In 1996, a master distiller Cirilo Oropeza launched Destiladora San Nicolas in the Los Altos region of Jalisco. With the unique natural environment that imprints the Spirits with its traditional Mexican mark, Oropeza’s purpose remained simple yet praiseworthy — to bless the people around him with the taste of an eye-opening, proper Mexican Tequila. With his broad-ranging knowledge and science-based distillation, he founded Espolòn Tequila — an exceptional Tequila for ordinary people. In 2008, the distillery got purchased by the Campari Group, but the process of Tequila production still rests safely on the shoulders of Oropeza’s pillars, sticking to his unorthodox methods and strict attention to detail.

Their latest release features one of Master Cirilo’s final acts — a silky smooth Cristalino made from 100% Blue Weber agave and water from the natural well that sits under their distillery. Using Esplon’s Añejo as a base and leveling it up with a sprinkle of their Extra Añejo, the Tequila then gets minimally filtered through charcoal to retain its crystalline color while still preserving Esplon’s signature flavor. A premium offering, bottled at 80 proof, that manifests in a mesmerizing swirl of caramelized agave and honey flavors, ending the journey in a sweet and oaky wave.
