Only 867 bottles were made of this seriously unique Japanese Whisky.
Ohishi Distillery was founded 5 generations of Sake and Shochu makers ago, way back in 1872 in the scenic countryside of the Southwest of Japan, more precisely in the tiny village of Mizukami. It's not just breathtakingly beautiful there, it's also extremely close to The Kuma River β the distillery's source of pristine water and one of the 3 fastest flowing rivers in Japan β the water there is so clean, it's won prizes for it. Today, the distillery is still family-run and they make superb Whisky from rice. Yep, you heard us, rice, and not just any rice, either: they use mochi rice from Kumamoto prefecture and estate-grown that are kept in check by little helpers β koi fish that swim about the grass and nibble on the invasive weeds.
Only 867 bottles of Ohishi Port Cask Whisky were produced. That's not the only reason this highly limited expression is seriously special, though. A Japanese Whiskey distilled entirely from rice in stainless steel and finished in old Port casks, a flavor profile like this is hard to find. Expect to find a well-balanced abundance of flavors with chocolate, subtle, stewed fruit, whole spices and lithe red Wine leading the way. Bottled at 87 proof, the finish is simple yet refreshing and sums up this one-of-a-kind experience perfectly.
