That Old Devil's Bathtub Gin

A bright and spicy "western style" Gin that’s been barrel-aged for a kick in the cask.

The Honeoye Falls Distillery sounds like it sits in the mountains of Cairngorm National Forest in the Highlands, doesn’t it? But actually, this craft distillery sits across the street from a tractor supply store in upstate New York about seven miles south of Rochester. It was founded by Teal Schlegel and Scott Stanton in 2014 — Teal is the chemist, Scott the business guy. They opened their doors creating Gin and immediately started aging Whiskey. They inaugurated a tasting room and lounge just two years later. Today they serve up a line of nine hand crafted Spirits from Gin and Whiskey to Absinth and Vodka.

They have two products that sound a lot alike, but it makes sense when you think about it. They have their "Devil’s Bathtub Gin" and "That Old Devil's Bathtub Gin." Gin-wise, they are the same thing — their self-described "New Western Style Gin" made from locally sourced rye grain. The Spirit is infused with a spicy combination of juniper, cinnamon, clove, coriander, angelica root, in addition to a handful of other botanicals. But as you might expect, the "Old" part kicks in when the Gin is rested in first-fill Rye Whiskey casks and bottled at a perfect 46% ABV.
