Out of the entire 2024 advent calendar, this one captured my fancy like a black hole drawing me into its inescapable event horizon. The Sekk Sato Shiki Single Grain Japanese Whisky intrigued me with its nuanced profile. On the nose, there's a subtle interplay of floral notes, oak, and vanilla, which might not stand out in a crowded lineup but certainly deserves attention. Sipping it, you're greeted with roasted nuts, caramel, and a touch of honey; the use of Koshihikari rice adds an interesting layer, though it's not transformative. The finish is where it shines, offering a gentle, smoky warmth that lingers just enough to leave you contemplating the next sip. This one really stood out as a surprise and an enjoyable one at that!!!

Good Whisky

I'm new to Japanese whisky and liked this one a lot. Easy to drink with great tasting notes. I also tried it in an old fashion per the recommendation of another reviewer and it was very good. Orange peel and flavor goes well with this liquid. Next up is the Single Malt.

3.5☆ First Japanese whisky, not bad; simple and smooth. My experience/taste is not as described by the site. I get corn/grain smells and tastes, slightly similar to moonshine I've tasted, just no burn or bite. I would recommend it to someone who is beginning to explore whisky/whiskey/bourbon. I may even buy a bottle for my home bar, if there are no other Japanese whiskys in this calendar.
